    Requiem: For Myself

    Alone on a darkened night
I sit with pen in hand
    Mind wandering, meandering
    Trying to understand

    Alone on a stormy night
I sit with head in hands
    Crying, sighing, inside: dying
    Mourning over my best-laid plans

    Lightning flashing, thunder rolls
    Eerie shadows on the wall
A sense of foreboding deep in my soul
    Listening to the sky fall

Body shaking, tears begin to fall
    Down life-weathered cheeks they roll
Pouring salt into the wound; the void; a hole
....I miss myself most of all

    Author's Note:

This poem comes from a very dark place I was in months ago. Thankfully I have found my way back and am getting back to who I really am. A good follow up to this one would be my work called "Full Circle" which also appears on this blog. It is pretty much the flip-side to this; describing my voyage back to self-realization.

I think your poetry is excellent. Even in your "darker" days you still seem to find the right words.

Have you ever done any song writing?

    To Jess...

Thank you for visiting my site, and if what you see has amazed you, then all the better! Your site @ ABC Radio Nights is so eerily close to ALL my tastes musically, it's staggering. I've pretty much downloaded most of what you have on there lately, and I must say your musical sensibilities are quite refined. Keep up the STELLAR work on your site, and I'll be sure to visit there often. Your site is like going to a person's house who is a really good cook, it doesn't matter what they are serving, you know it's going to be tasty! :) You rock, Jess!

Best wishes from Philadelphia, PA, the City of Brotherly Love!

    To moodyblue2...

Hey there Sy! Great to have you visit my site, and thanks for your kind comments on my poetry.

I have done some songwriting in my distant past, although nothing I saw as publishable, didn't seem to be my best work back then. Perhaps I will take it up again, when the notion and inspiration strikes.

Until then, I shall keep writing my poems, essays, and reviews, because they really give me that feeling of accomplishment and adrenaline rush when I see them in print on my screen.

You are not the first to suggest I try my hand at songwriting, and I am open to that as a different outlet, should the circumstance arise. After all, I do play keyboards, so music is definitely in my veins, although up to now it has been limited to instrumental new age/ambient/classical stylings.

Keep an eye out, though, you never know where my creative journey will take me.

Much appreciation to you, nice seeing you check in both here and on last.fm. Stay in touch!

    ----Heather
